Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother’s Day!!!  Every Mother’s Day I like to reflect back on previous Mother’s Day’s and how special and memorable each one has been.  I remember what should have been my very first Mother’s Day.  I was pregnant with our first daughter and my husband didn’t feel that I was a mother yet so therefore I didn’t need to celebrate, I was due any day at this point.  I was very hurt and upset but figured that he just didn’t get.  I don’t think that he has ever lived that mistake down but he has since redeemed himself in many ways so all is forgiven.
After the birth of our first child and for many years after he did everything that he could to make it special for me.  I remember getting to take naps when our daughters were young and not sleeping through the night and getting to watch one of my favorite movies without any interruptions.  He used to also make my favorite meal, teriyaki chicken wings.  Just to let you know I don’t like teriyaki chicken anything but I could never get it through to him so I just appreciated the gesture.  He always promised to clean the kitchen as he has never figured out how to clean as he cooks, but I still love him dirty kitchen and all.  He now does make my favorite meal, scampi and champagne and does clean the kitchen after he is done.
I remember the years of receiving gifts made at school and the special Mother’s Day programs that I was able to attend.  I also remember the home made cards with their names barely discernable.  I have kept everyone of these cards along with the store bought cards and love every single one of them.
I remember the flowers that I would get at Church that never seemed to make it home in one piece.  Someone always wanted to smell the flower and then accidently break it and with an apologetic look on a little face, how could I ever get mad.  I also remember the bouquets of dandelions that I would receive.  They would be so proud of themselves for having picked the most beautiful flowers I would ever receive.
About eight years ago around Mother’s Day my husband gave me a great gift.  I had just graduated with my associate’s degree and while on the way home he told me that if I went back to school and earned my bachelor’s degree he would take over all the household chores.  I was so shocked and happy that I gladly accepted.  I have since received my bachelor’s degree and know that I could not have accomplished this without the help from my family especially my husband and his dedication to helping me with everything.
Through the years I have received many gifts from my daughters but the best gift that they can ever give me is for them to be happy, healthy and continue to be the amazing women that they have turned out to be.  I have also received many gifts from my husband but his love and support is all that I ever really want and need.
